Revision as of 05:20, 9 September 2014

Here at the ODU CS Department, we maintain four computing labs: Teaching Lab, CS 101 Lab, Problem Solving Lab (PS Lab), Open Research Lab (OR Lab). The Teaching Lab and CS 101 Lab are used by CS professors for various classes. The PS Lab and OR Lab are both open to CS students, providing them with computers they can use.

Teaching Lab - Dragas Hall room 1115

Our Teaching Lab consists of 47 machines each with Intel Core i7 CPUs, 4GB of RAM, and solid-state disks (SSDs). Usually CS 250 and other programming classes are taught there. Each machine has 19 inch Dell/Gateway monitors.

CS 101 Lab - Dragas Hall room 1105

CS 101 Lab is usually used for CS 101 lectures and labs. It consists of 49 machines each with 2.8GHz quad-core Intel processors. Each machine has 19 inch HP widescreen monitors.

PS Lab - Dragas Hall room 1103G

Problem Solving lab consists of 42 machines each with with Intel i7 processors, 8 GB of RAM. This lab is usually used by students to work on their assignments and projects. Each machine has 24 inch Dell Monitors. Along with the PCs we provide two iMACs for our students. Each iMAC has a Core 2 Duo Intel Processor, 2 GB RAM, and run Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) . Two Linux desktops are also available on the same row as the iMAC machines. The first machine runs Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Desktop, and the second runs CentOS 6.5.

OR Lab - E&CS room 3104

Open Research Lab consists of 27 machines each with 2.4 GHz quad-core processors and 4GB of RAM. It is usually used by students to work on assignments, projects, and research. Each machine has 19 inch Lenovo monitor.

Open Lab Hours

The PS Lab and OR Lab are both open for student use, and a valid CS account for use.

After hours access to the Problem Solving Lab and Open Research Lab is available to all students currently enrolled in a CS course. In order to gain 24x7 access you first need to go to the main office in the E&CS building (room 3300) and pay a $10 fee for a proxy student ID card. Once you get your new card from the Monarch Card Center in Webb Center, send an e-mail to root@cs.odu.edu with the first five numbers on the back of your new card (below the magnetic strip) requesting access. Your access will be granted within 72 hours.
