About Systems Group

Systems is an entirely student run organization tasked with developing and maintaining the ODU Computer Science department’s IT infrastructure. Our group strives to provide exceptional support to our faculty, researchers, and students. We work with industry standard hardware and software to provide compute resources and software solutions for our Computer Science community. Systems Group members are among the brightest of students here at ODU and employers are consistently impressed with what our alumni have learned in their time here.

Technologies

At Systems you will be given access to many of our compute resources to complete your duties and learning-projects. This includes enterprise-grade networking devices, high performance computing (HPC) clusters, and our virtualization infrastructure. We also develop and administer the Linux services and remote Windows desktops you are likely familiar with as a CS student. The various technologies we work with include VMware, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Gitlab, Zabbix, Graylog and more.

About the role

As a consultant you will be an integral part of our team working on the front-lines of our organization to support our end-users. Our faculty and students rely on us to resolve issues and you will leverage your technical skills to solve problems daily. You may also assist systems administrators and engineers with tasks delegated to you. Applicants are NOT required to have prior IT experience; a substantial portion of your time will be spent completing 'learning projects' to familiarize you with key concepts and technologies we rely on. Completing these projects will allow you to take on increasingly technical tasks in production. Again this is primarily an entry-level position!

Applications can be submitted here: http://cs.odu.edu/apply We look forward to your application!
